Spring Events ProgramSee also our regular weekly activities below
This spring we have yet another packed events program at
the reserve. We’ve already had our first spring bird walk, as well as the highly successful Joint ParkCare Display at Jamison Centre. Events still to come include the Halloween-themed Spring Fete at Hawker Primary, a second bird walk, a post-burn walk through the Stringybark Forest, the Florey Fair, and a walk designed for families with children.
Please note that numbers are limited for most of the events and bookings are essential (see how to
book under details for each event).
Sunday Oct 26Hawker Primary School Fete
11 am to 2 pm
This popular community event is an excellent opportunity for us to connect with
people in the neighbourhood and talk to them about The Pinnacle Nature Reserve and what a
precious resource it is for nature and the community, as well as the work we do in trying
to maintain and improve the reserve’s ecological values. The fete is also a really fun place
to hang out and sample the wares!
Please contact John Brannan if you can spare an hour or two to help staff our
display stall at the fete: convenor@fotpin.org.au
tel: 0405 331 405.
John Brannan will lead a late-season walk through The Pinnacle Nature Reseerve that
focuses on the migratory species as they settle in for their breeding season, as well as the resident
species as they try for a second (or even third!) brood.
Some of the walk may be off-track, so wear appropriate shoes or boots.
Dress for the weather and bring your binoculars, camera or both.
To register for the walk please contact John Brannan:
convenor@fotpin.org.au tel: 0405 331 405.
Don’t delay, as numbers are limited for these walks.
Meet at: reserve entrance at the carpark opposite De Salis St.
on Springvale Drive, Weetangera
Sunday Nov 09Post-burn Forest Walk
9 am to 11 am
As you may know, there was a hazard-reduction burn in April this year in
the Red Stringybark forest at the western end of the reserve. The Forest block, as we call it, has
always been one of the most pristine and floristically diverse areas of the reserve and one with
very high ecological values. So, we are very curious to see how well this area is recovering from the
burn.
Join John Fitz Gerald for a close-up look at the species that are emerging from
the burnt surface layer.
Some of the walk may be off-track, so wear appropriate shoes or boots. Dress for the
weather and bring some water.
To register for the walk please contact John Brannan:
convenor@fotpin.org.au tel: 0405 331 405.
Meet at: Dungowan St., Hawker entrance to the reserve.
Saturday Nov 15Florey Fair
11 am to 3 pm
This year we will be participating in this event for the first time. By all accounts,
the Florey Fair is a vibrant and entertaining community event that is being revived this year for the
first time since COVID hit. We are very happy to be holding a display stall at this event, and would
love it if you could help out with staffing the stall for an hour or two.
Please contact John Brannan if you're able to help at some stage during the day:
convenor@fotpin.org.au tel: 0405 331 405.
In a new venture for us, we are planning a walk in the reserve that is
specifically designed for families with children. The walk will visit some of the most
interesting spots in the reserve with something (we hope!) to engage and entertain the
whole family.
Contact Bob Hodgson to receive an email each week
confirming that the work party is going ahead (subject to the weather and Bob's availability)
