Comparison of effort in 2025-26 with earlier seasons

for each weed type (see comments below)

for the Reserve only

Reserve Only

Weed type Comparative
Effort
(relative to last season; Reserve only)
      Likely reasons
African Lovegrass less We are benefiting from PCS and contractor spraying in some of the places previously treated by fotpin, and also the dry season
St. John's Wort much more
Spraying commenced earlier than last season and in additional areas.
Blackberries more ... but spraying is ahead of last season.
Briars more There were considerably more briar to treat in spring this season compared with recent seasons.
Cootamundra wattle similar There are not many on the Reserve and treatment is occasional.
Saffron thistles similar
Horehound similar Horehound is no longer a major problem on the reserve compared with a decade ago and just requires a small amount of effort each season.
Verbascum much less Not a major target so far this season because it is too dry for the dominant Verbascum species on the reserve (V. thapsus) to flourish. The other species (V. virgatum) does better in dry seasons but it is not as widespread.
non-Saffron thistles similar An ever-present problem
Paterson's Curse much more Conditions over winter were favourable for Paterson's Curse again as in the previous two seasons, requiring more attention than it has in the seasons before that.
Capeweed similar Attention to treatment of Capeweed is not consistent from season to season.
Exotic grasses (other than those classified of National Significance) much less Much less effort spent in Weetangera paddock trying to clear exotic grasses from planting areas than last season.
Bathurst Burr similar Still too early in the season
Other woody weeds much less The rainfall conditions in the past 12 months have been less favourable for woody weed germination and growth.
Skeleton weed much less Skeleton weed has not been specifically targeted so far this season.
Miscellaneous broadleaf weeds less, but highly variable from year to year This category includes a range of low to medium risk weeds such as Hoary mustard, Prickly lettuce, fleabane, flatweed, catsear, Tragopogon, plantain, etc. Effort is largely in Weetangera paddock.
